Question

As topic. MY00 PPP with decat induction kit @ 17PSI held.

Any power benefit from dump valve - heard something about it "holding the boost better" when modded? Obviously I want to keep it recirculating so as not to give effective MAF errors? Thoughts welcome, thanks.

Edited to say sorry I have unwittingly duplicated a similar question below. I have already searched and cannot find a succint or even long summary of the pros/cons.

Hi John,

No expert, but as far as I have been told, from a few mechanics and some on here, an after market dump valve will do nothing for performance gains for anything under around 350hp or so,maybe even more. I have read though that the stock items can leak, so an after market one may help. But apart from the lovely sound they make, nothing more really. By the way I have the Blitz blow off valve and noticed nothing performance wise. But I love the noise.

Cheers,

Wrexy.

Wrexy is exactly right, only required for higher boost levels normally past 18 PSI

Cool

I don't want the noise. I only want power. Thanks all.

Cool

For example, on the New Age WRX, the stock BOV vents out back into the intake at certain conditions. That slows down the boost build up and throttle response.

You cannot gain anything by getting an aftermarket BOV. What you cna do, is to make sure that you don't loose any power. Stock valves tend to be on the soft side and leak a bit under full STOCK boost. And, of course, if you up your boost, they will leak even more.

By getting an aftermarket BOV (I prefer JDM adjustable type and not cheapo "whistle mushrooms") you can make sure that you do not loose any boost.

Some people "crush" their BOV's. That involves smacking the BOV on the top with a mallet, and therefore, crushing the spring, making the BOV valve more stiff.

Hope this helps,

-Alex
