guys

i ahve a 97 wrx import i have a problem with oil pressure?

my gauge normaly sits at 55 slightly rises

but now it is sitting at 75 and as soon as i touch the trottle it shoots straight up to 100 on the gauge?

the oil levels are fine but i have no idea what is going on, is the car safe to drive i am guessing not or is it more possible to be a fault in the sender

I might be a sender fault; but it might be the pressure relief valve in the pump too.

ok guys took the car out and does this sound right to you?

on cold start the oil pressure sits at 75 psi and rises to 100 psi with a touch of the throttle

as the car warms up

the pressure drops to 55 psi when out of gear or clutch is pressed and then rises to 75 psi when accelerating and a little further to 80-85 psi when under hard driving

please guys never really paid too much attention but my mate brought it to my eyes when he borrowed the car today

please does this sound all ok

car is running larger turbo full 3'' decat upraded fuel pump, samco hoses and a couple of other bits (dont know if that would help with your answer)

thanks

steve

If the gauge is accurate then Id suspect that the pressure relief valve isnt working properly. If it fails the other way itll let all of your oil pressure bleed away; think where thatll leave you...

Using a calculator,as my gauge is in BAR, im using 10w 40 oil, at cold idle i am at 87 psi, at idle warm im at about 30 psi, at normal driving im at 72.5 psi

Hope that kinda helps, if your using a heavier oil, pressure is more tho.....

Tio be honest, id have a guess and say your using a heavier oil and having the psi near 80 when hard driving seems about right from what ive seen of other peoples readings and oil weights.....

Hi steve,

With respect to oil pressure you should be getting around the following figures:

Idle: 27 to 36 psi
Cold Start: 100 to 115 psi
Normal Driving: 79 to 90 psi

Hope that helps.

Hi Rig,

I usually get 7bar (100PSI) but there have been cases when very cold and the car has not been mover for 2-3 days and the pressure has reached 8 bar.

Most of the times is 7bar.

Millers CFS 10W40

My actual figures ('95 STi 2, 85K miles) are the following:

Idle: 2.2bar and when the car has been driven for at least 1 hour drops to 1.7bar

Normal Driving: 5.8 bar
Fun Driving: 6.2-6.4 bar
Cold Start: 7 bar
