Default STI RA MY95 ECU (CHIPPED!) HELP

Hi,

I have just bought an STI RA MY95, I am the first owner in the UK.

I have removed the ecu to check it and it has a chip in the socket already, I have taken some pictures of the ecu and the chip.

I have previously had a chip off Scott Taylor which required a resistor to be cut when it was installed, the STI RA ECU has no such resistor, is this a genuine Subaru chip installed and would it be safe to run on 99 ron?

Thanks,

Lee DT.

J1 has just been removed fully rather than just cut.

If it came into the country like it then it is probably a Mines (does exactly as the name suggests.. goes band) or similar chip for 100+RON and the timing will be very advanced on it..

Do you know what boost it is running?

I would swap it to a known chip or solder a connection to J1..

Simon

Can Scott Taylor or anyone else give me a price for mapping the chip?

The SB ECU from an STi RA should come with a chip already fitted. Thats how they got it up to 275ps. It runs more boost and a bit leaner.

There is no resistor in the J1 position as they never fitted one.

This is despite what Jap Performance mag have said....
They were jumping up and down declaring the ECU had an after market chip in it, infact I think they quoted Steve Simpson. When he swapped it for a MOTEC.
Sorry guy's but it's supposed to be there if it's a genuine STi RA.

I did email the mag when I read the first feature. But they obviousley ignored it as they printed the same rubbish when they got the 2nd RA (after they wrote the 1st one off) and done a Hydra ECU upgrade.

Thanks for the reply Scott,

So in your opinion would it be safe to run on the Tesco 99ron, I'm not planning any upgrades to increase the horse power and it is currently standard apart from a stainless back box.

Thanks,

Lee DT.

Should be fine on 99 or V-power.
I drove an RA hard a year or so back and only ever saw 1 yellow on the knocklink, but I was trying to provoke it.
This had full decat, filter and some blitz type dump valve thing.....

IMHO they do drive very nice on the standard map due to the shorter gearbox and leaner mixture. I would say if your happy with the performance stick with it. Maybe fit a knocklink if funds allow.
