Default new turbo on MY00?

can someone confirm that the turbo on a classic uk MY00 will be a td04?

im looking to get my car over 300bhp, i have a full decat and was about get it remapped, but then i was considering headers before the remap, but now ive read i cant get above 280bhp with the td04.

i dont know what the hell to do now, i really dont want to waste money on a remap and then need it tweaking after further mods. i cant really afford new headers+turbo+remap all in one (not at scoobyclinic prices anyway).

should i upgrade the turbo before doing the headers or...???? i have looked at 2nd hand td05's but they all seem to be from older cars, not sure id be happy putting an old (knackered?) turbo in my well looked after 00
any advice would be appreciated

Correct MY00 uk are TD04s and wont make your power goals.

Td05s are generally very tough and I've seen very few problems with them.

Before changing the turbo you will find pleasant gains from upping the boost.

Things start getting expensive over 300bhp with things like gearboxes on the limit.

Bob

VF24, VF28, VF29 will get you to 300BHP, maybe as much as 330BHP depending on other supporting mods.
But then they will also be on the limit of the boost they can provide.

It's an easy and fairly cheap way (they can be picked up for around £150) to get to 300BHP without suffering too much loss in the spool-up department.

TD05 will give you more headroom, if you plan to go further.

I went the VF28 route and got 320BHP. But as mentioned above, if I want to go further I need to add a fair bit more i.e not just bung on a TD05-18g but also factor in bigger Injectors, Pump and possible gearbox rebuild.

I changed to a VF28 on my My99 uk turbo, picked it up off ebay for £125, with a full 3" decat (Lagged down pipe), K&N induction kit, Hybrid FMIC, TEk3 remap. I got 317 BHP on powerstation rollers.

I changed the clutch to an exedy uprated one and had a lighten flywheel fitted at the smae time.

The gear box let go after only 3 weeks, 3rd blow itself apart, I put this done to the increase torque and the 90K it had done, had this repalced by API and all has been fine but I don't cane it as much in 3rd like I used to on the old one.

*Gulp* I've got 320bhp and similar torque out of mine from a VF35 set up. That said, its a young box though (28k) and mapped sympathetically by Bob, so I'm hoping I'll be ok!

have a word with Andy forrest, he will be able to do you a hybrid TD04 that will easily make over 300,(a VF28 is a very good choice if you want to go S/H) a set of Harveys ported headers with his version 2 up pipe, a full decat, Walbro fuel pump and a remap and you will be where you want to be no probs imo
