Hi hoping someone could give me some info

Will a Type R DCCD box (code TY752VB5CA) fit straight into a 94 UK car?

What kind of power will the box take, I'm currently running about 380bhp on a standard UK box and get the impresion that I'm probably on the limit or past it.

I think not because of the rear diff ratio.
You need the hard to find 4:4444.

i trashed an RA gearset with a 20g turbo so that gearbox isnt gonna help you !!!

If I was to get the rear diff as well then would that be a straight swap, and make fitting it all to a UK Classic straight forward ?

Reading through other threads it seems that opinion is widely different on what power each version gearbox will take, Still even if I end up with getting a complete gear kit I'd still like a DCCD box.

Anyone gone from a standard box to DCCD and got any opnions? was it worth the cost/hassle?

 

Hi mate I have just got hold of a complete sti RA 5 speed box with rear diff and dccd, Going to attempt to fit it into a 94 wrx rally car. I have been told you have to get the wiring loom, ecu, rear drive shafts, hubs, prop shaft and thumb wheel as well as some form of display to show how the dccd is locking up. If you aint to worried about the use of the dccd then I have been told all you need to do is connect a wire to the hand brake release and the diff runs completely open.

 

You don't need to wire it to the handbrake. With no power to the box it will run completey open i.e. 65r/35f.

One other point to bear in mind is that dccd is incompatible with ABS - not really a problem if the diff is permanently open though, I suppose

 

Actually thats good information FAT BOY I didnt know that maybe they advised me to connect the hand brake because we tend to use the handbrake in rally stages

 

you will have been told that the box has "handbrake release" John.................that would be the reason for wiring it correctly........

why not a newage 6 speed with dccd? probably better for that sort of power. might be able to keep the abs?

I'd like to say thanks to everyone whos contributed, really I'm looking for a simple and cost effective way to get a box that will
A take the power
B I like the idea of DCCD

I did think it was just a case of changing the box and maybe the rear diff, looks like it a bigger job than that which is a shame. I'll probably just wait for my box to go bang and then get a new gear kit something like the PPG.

Re handbrake release - absolutely vital if you are rallying and want to use the handbrake, in which case you'll want the the diff ecu as well, the beefier R180 rear diff, etc,etc and then everything will need "wiring up correctly".

However, if you just want a rear biased road car as the original poster wants then, as I said, you don't need to wire the handbrake release just run with it open all the time.

Personally, if I was going to do such a swap , I'd go the whole hog as there will be times - wet, snow etc, when you would be glad to be able to wind the lock on in the box ( and there will be times when you will want to use the handbrake too ).

I have DCCD & ABS on a STi wagon and have yet to encounter a problem. 375bhp/375lbs. Drive it hard on sprints and toodle on the road (sort of).

BTW Type R gearing is a real pain on cruise 70 = 4K RPM
