Unhappy IPod Shuffle 1GB ... won't connect!

Any ideas?

Bought it from Fleabay the other day (brand new) & it can't be seen by the laptop when plugged in to the USB port.

Didn't come with a CD which is annoying ... downloaded the software from Tinternet though. The software loads up then asks me to plug in the IPod even though it's already plugged in! Taking it out and plugging it in again doesn't work.

ITunes help says that it should be plugged in to a "fast" USB port which I don't think I have ... will this really matter?

Could be that the IPod is broken I suppose?

All help appreciated.

TX.

think you find it will matter... my daughter had a shuffle... had it from brand new.. and this happened to hers too.
we got it to work on one computer.. but not the other.. all because of the usb's!

the shuffles are renowned for ******* up frequently too.. tho having said that.. eldest got hers replaced after it stopped working and she's never had a problem since.

OK ... USB port is slow ... can I connect a fast port to a slow port or do I need to remove slow port & add in a fast port?!! There are fast ports on Fleabay just not sure what to do with it when/if I get it ...

TX.

[edit - thanks for reply SD!]

1. Post in the computer section, you will get a better response.
2. The USB ports you are describing are USB2 and USB1. USB1 being the "slow" one as you describe it and USB2 being the fast one.
do yourself a favour though and stop buying stuff off ebay and get yourself down to a shop that can give you some proper advice. Beleive me, it will work out cheaper in the long run.

Dont get me wrong, but when you say, "can i connect a slow port to a fast port ?" that just gets me shaking my head at how little people know

Honestly you will get some better advice from either a shop or from the computer section.

Technically the ipod shuffle should work on either ports, its the transfering of songs that requires the faster connection.
the ipod updater software is also specfic to models, though the latest update covers them all in one download. You will need an apple id to download it(guessing you already did that???)
http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/

Suggest you use Add/remove programs to get rid of itunes and the ipod software, download them all again.
Install itunes first, then the ipod software updater, do not attach the ipod until asked.
see if that helps...if not post again in computer section and we shall see if we can help further.

No, a computer is a computer. Chances are your laptop is old and USB spec is out of date, resulting in flakey or no connection.

Time for a new laptop.
