Question

What are the cheapest and best upgrades for a Turbo 1999? Say a maximum of £300 per upgrade/mod.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

Zak,

1. BackBox
2. Driving lamps
3. Downpipe + Centre section
4. Upgraded brake pads front and rear
5. Dump valve
6. Head unit
7. Speakers
8. One 17" wheel
9. Another 17" wheel
10. Yet another 17" wheel (getting there)
11. Yes you've guessed it a 17" wheel, there you go a full set

All the above £300 or less. Just remember to check your insurance on all the above before you get them.

John,
Manual boost controler..........is that a posh name for a bleed valve or is it something different?

www.dawesdevices.com - see the boost controller. Also see group buy in General Q and the thread in Drivetrain. Also see www.i-club.com and do a search on MBC or Dawes - lots of discussion there.

Much more sophisticated than a bleed valve - it stops air going to the wastegate diaphragm until boost reaches a level you set, so spool up is faster, and boost is held to the flow limits of the turbo at high revs or the level you set whichever is lower. In other words the car is quicker even if you use standard levels of boost. But a boost gauge and probably an air-fuel ratio meter are necessary. Much less prone to spiking/environmental change - controls to within 0.5PSI according to some users - ie as good as EBC.
