Terzo for sale
Apologies in advance to Bluie for adding nothing more constructive than an attempt to get away from playground name calling.
It's true that John as a potential buyer has an interest in a low price, equally owners are often optomistic in their assessment of their cars value. In the end, as has already been stated, it is only worth the amount someone will offer. E.g My cousin has a 1954 Morgan 4/4 in perfect condition, he values it at approaching 30k my bid wouldn't exceed four figures. Doesn't mean he's right or I'm wrong, but a deal only gets done when the gap narrows to a level where negotiation is an attractive option for both parties.
Terzos initially had almost bombproof residuals with with used cars selling at close to new prices. But the bubble burst, I lost close to 10k on mine, so I have some sympathy for Alan. But no amount of propaganda will increase the value of the car.
Five months ago I would have happily taken £14k for a 99% perfect car (two tiny chips on the bonnet and a small scuff on door interior) 30,000 thousand miles, no track days, balance of warrany, Multi CD, PIAA lights, High Spoiler, Original unmarked mats, New Bridgestones & unused full size spare, etc. etc.
Forecourt prices at that time £15k, part ex offers generally around £12k (an outright trade buy would be lower) and I would guess 60,000 miles would have taken at least £1000 off that figure. But a drive to a local showroom and a couple of telephone calls is the best way to get a valuation.
BTW Alan, traders at this end of the market can't work on a £1,000 mark up. A few basic calculations will show the figures are flawed.

I guess for that year the price might be right, but for the Terzo I understand they carry a premium of at about 20%

Should have said I've owned it from new
One was on for a trade in at £12,600

now I'm no expert at selling cars but surely the worst thing you can say is 'I don't know how much my car is worth'!
also don't say I want between xxx and xxx as you've given away your lowest price.
Put it up at what you thinks it worth - if you get no takers lower the price a littele. But not too quickly, if someone is genuinly interested they will negotiate.

I paid £16000 for my Terzo but I got 2 years ext Warranty on top of the balance of the original. That said,it would only cost £500 to get that from Subaru any how. So that's £15,500 (23,000 miles)let's say the dealer takes £1,000 (£14,500) for a mint car.
Even if the bodywork is sahgged and the car needs new tyres It's EASY worth £13,000

Maybe it's worth £13K of someboby elses money but it is worth £10K of mine. Thats just the way it is. I am very much awake and awair of current scoob turbo prices and thats what i would pay for a 60K mile car. I am looking to buy right now. You can buy MY98 UK turbo's with that mileage for under 9K without any problems, i would pay the extra 1K for the terzo but no more.
I think your information is slightly distorted, and optimistic to say the least, Parkers guide certainly disagrees. Or maybe your money is worth more than everyone elses??? ...we may never know.
Needless to say, IMHO I think your chances of picking up a 'well maintained' scoob for that price are dillusional at best. As the old saying says.... ' you get what you pay for '

indeed you do.
parkers valuation for this car and mileage is on this link

They value my own car £1200 more than i know i can sell it for so i dont think i am being unrealistic. It's a buyers market right now, very little is selling unless the price is low enough to give an incentive.

Parkers guide is and does overstate values and is mainly aimed at the general public.
I have to agree with John here and say that were you to look at Glass's Guide or CAP you'd be even more alarmed at how much less they book your Terzo

It's worth what someone will pay for it. No more. If someone pays £13K then its worth £13K. If you cant sell it unless the price is dropped to £10K then its worth £10K. Doesn't matter what you paid for it, thats not the buyers concern, thats yours.
i hope the car is sold for what you are asking also. Blieu asked for a value as he didnt know it's worth. I have given my opinion of that value. I am someone who is seriously looking to purchase a car soon, i have looked into this for a while.
I am just telling things the way they are right now. No one who has money invested in cars wants to see the value of that investment plummet but that is the reality of the UK car market right now. Part of that is down to the UK buyer waking up to being ripped off by the dealers and buying in Europe, some is down to supply being greater than demand for this type of car. Some of it is down to UK prices for new cars dropping after the discrepencies with europe were finally called what they were and the UK not standing for being called "treasure Island" any longer.
Take a look through the threads in here, cars are selling for much less than 12 months ago. I am just as affected by this as the rest. I work damn hard for my money like the rest of you no doubt do and i wont buy something that i know i instantly would lose money on because i paid more than the market would stand if i had to sell.
I think the events of the 11th sept have also made people nervous about spending such large sums of money on a car also. Many people in the UK are feeling financially threatened as the climate in business is definately taking a downer right now.
All this added up means lower prices in the 2nd hand market place. Sorry if that doesnt fit your image of what is happening.

someone sold a terzo on here a few days ago - mighjt be worth doing a search and asking politely what they got for it?
at least it's real world - pointless comparing to ones dealers are selling they can afford to have it sat around for longer than most private sellers.

As someone else who is looking to buy a Scooby, I wholeheartedly agree with John.
I fully sympathise with people who bought a Scoob a few years back and are now facing a substantial loss, but there's no way I'm going to pay over the odds on a car where supply exceeds demand.
It's a buyers market out there just now, with not many people looking to spend that amount of money in the current economic climate.
If you look at some of the price guides - such as Parkers - you'll get a better idea of prices. But at the end of the day the old chestnut about your car only being worth what someone wants to pay for it still holds true.
Anyway, I hope you have success in selling your car

Seems a bit strange to me that everyone who's after buying a SCOOB reckons the market is SHI*E and everyone who's lucky enough to have one thinks otherwise?
I reckon it's the people after buying that are putting a downer on everything. Strange that John wants Turbo for not a chaff much more than his sport is "going for".

Nothing strange about it. I have a 31,500 mile mint car and am in no rush to sell. I'll put it up at a price and see what happens. I am advertising it for 4K less than a terzo of the same miles/condition/year which isnt unrealistic.
I know it is. You dont advertise at your bottom line now do you?

I am quite happy to hang on to my sport, it's a brilliant car i love to drive. I would like a turbo now but i do still have a 480BHP/tonne car in the garage if i need some big power fun.

I have been very happy to run my sport for two years, i dont need to change it, especially after the services etc that are happening in 2 days. I just fancy driving something with a bit more grunt every day. Lets face it, nobody needs a Subaru Impreza Turbo or Sport.
If I wanted to start a debate on the seller/buyer market views, I would have posted in the General forum under a different title!
I appreciate the realistic price guide given via Parkers. Mine does have the full S/S exhaust which may have to go seperate and the car back to standard.
Now perhaps we can get back to the title of this topic. As it has been said it is worth what someone is prepared to pay and indeed what the buyer is prepared to accept.

I was lucky, mine has only 28k on it now (23k when I bought it)
