Question Exhaust info needed!

Hi there.

Not too sure as what to do
I havn't had my Uk Wagon very long, but I would love to change my Exhaust. I would ideally like a cat back system, but as my funds don't stretch that far I was wondering if I could buy a stainless rear box and then add to it as time progressed! Is it an idea or just don't bother messing about?
I would also like to know, if I did change the rear box alone, would it actually make any difference to the sound/burble of the car?

Your opinions and ideas would be very helpfull.

Thank you.

MY99 wagon has recently been fitted with a Hayward & Scott backbox and centre pipe.......now sounds absolutely peachy, and H & S reckon 15+bhp more, which sounds about right, as it feels 'punchier'.

One thing to watch for though, is my mate has the same on his 4 door and it is far noisier inside my wagon.....the rear of the wagon must act as a boom box!

Thanks for that

Anybody else got some info for me please? Back box. Will it help me out with the sound alone?

I had a hks back box fitted and it transformed the sound of mine, 4 door my99. Later on i fitted an afterburner centre section which got rid of the cat and also increased the sound ever so slightly. The most dramatic noise increase will come from changing the backbox. Hope this answers your question.

i have a prodrive exhaust on my 03 saloon WRX, but im led to believe that HKS, Blitz Nur Spec and Vortex afterburner backboxes are the loudest in terms of both 'burble' and droning at motorway speeds ( which is obviously not desirable unless u want a headache! lol)

It also depends what size exhaust your after in terms of tip. afterburner vortex is a 4.5 inch tip as is the ninja (both sound great from what i have heard, hks and blitz is 5.(probly the loudest out there) My hks is loud but on the motorway at constant speed it isnt droany or annoying. Besides its better than listening to the wife moaning on about your driving.

I went down the semi quiet route and got the magnex oval on mine. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gillp95...20Car/Rear.JPG

It still has the burble on tick over and sounds mint under acceleration (very deep). But on motorways its fine and you can still hear the radio....

I fitted a Magnex 6x4 oval to my WRX (saloon) and it sounded great, as previously said - nice burble on tickover and subtle roar on acceleration but fine on the motorway.

I then fited a TSL Tiphoon which was way too loud for me as it's an everyday car (also intrusive in the cabin on the motorway). It also made the car drive differently, it seemed to lack power low down and spooled up later - possibly lack of back pressure?

Now I've fitted an H&S 3.5" rolled end. Really nice bb and best I've had on yet.

I also have a Magnex unresonated centre section already fitted and I have a decat TSL Group N downpipe and decat H&S up pipe to go on - so "YES", you can change the exhaust in stages.

Some great info there guys Really helped.
Not looking to deafen me on motorway cruising, it's the tick over and acceleration i'm looking for. Thought about an oval one as it would look good in the cut out on the bumper. but quite fancied a 5" jap can. Now you have given me something to think about and I can't make up me mind again!!! lol
Cheers again.

Are they any good then?
If you are selling, what sort of price would you be looking at?

Nothing to do with the backbox, you need a diagnostic check mate !

The quality and sound is excellent, it's just a little too loud for my nippers
on the motorway, so i'm looking at something a bit quieter.

I want £170 for it, their £225 new from www.scoobyworld.co.uk
