Coming from Essex my best curry house is 'The raj lodge' Old Harlow.

Best curry is funny enough their quon dishes.

But then down bradford road, (in bradford) is the best curry house ive ever been to. liver tikka,mince keema, nann bread served on a large hook. strawberry lassie milk shake.

So whats yours and where??.

Saag Gost(not ghost )= Spiced tender lamb cooked with spinach.- vindaloo style( hot!hot!hot!)

We have a restaurent called Saffron and a take away called Club Spice.They do it fantastic!It's in North Wales.

I cook Indian myself but sometimes,it is great to buy it cooked.

Chicken Saag, Keema Naan and Keema Rice, best place I've ever had curry was some place just off Leicester Sq in the big smoke

 

I tend to judge a Cuzza house on the quality/quantity of pickles, in which case Cuisine East in Stourbridge wins hands down for me!

The Specials there are guaranteed to be good, so I never go for my regular Chicken Tikka Pathia favourite.

You should try the Vojan on the a414 near Ongar, they do a lamp chop curry it is fantastic.

There is one in Northampton called the mem saab, got to be the poshest indian I've ever been in

 

I always have Chicken Tikka Madras, as it's the only thing I know I like

Is there anything simular spice levels I could try instead? Getting bored of it now! (been having that for 10 years!).

I think I tried a friends butter chicken once, but it wasn't spicy enough.

 

The best curry I've ever had was a Chicken Jalfrezi at the Indian Garden in Frodsham. Perfection itself!

Bengal Brasserie, Goodramgate, York. The one at Poppleton is'nt as good.

The King's Ransom is also pretty good, King Street York.

We usually pick 4 dishes and share them out, I once had a Phall and had steam coming out of my ears!!!

 

Jee-Ja-Jees in Derby. Fantastic food and very good service. Everytime I go, a lot of Asian families are dining which suggests just how good it is.
I don't really have a favorite dish as I tend to try different each time I visit.

Rajdoot in Bristol is very good - a little more pricey than average (6quid for a bottle of Kingfisher), but the food is always excellent and properly spicey!

I tend to go for a Chicken Madras or Jalfrezi usually.

They have a restaurant in Manchester, Leicester and London too.

 

Get your local restaurant to recommend an alternative dish (to your taste, sweet, sour, fruity etc), then get them to prepare it to Madras strength?

Mates of mine are always messing with how many different vegatables they want in their Curries, so I'm sure this should be no problem...

 

If you're from Essex then the only curry house to go to is "the Mitalee" on london road, westcliff.

Just been to "Shalamars" in West Bromwich which is 2nd best.

 

The Sportsman's club in West bromwich is the best I've ever been to for food, but looks like a school canteen. The Viceroy in Uttoxeter is the other best one ever, the service is fantastic and their tandoori cocktail is awesome!!!!
In Stafford we have one called the Rose of Kashmir and they do a chicken bhuna jalfrezi which is also great!!!!!!!!!!!!!

La Lipu Cusine - Southborough. I've been going there for years, still get xmas cards from them, plus they still know me even though I now only appear about once a year. Fave dishes, let's see: Chicken Madras. Chicken Tikka Massala, Balti Chilli Chicken.

Over here, well, a couple of very good places, our current fave being Shala-Mar on Roncesvalles. The beef passanda and balti chicken are fantastic.
The other place we like is Bansaree in St Catherines. It's the closest to having UK style dishes.

 

The cinamon club in London not sure if you can get a chicken tikka there though.

Without question the best curry house in London is my old local,

The Raj Doot on Paddington Street, W1, between Marylebone High Street and Baker St.

Every dish is outstanding! And I've been to most of the "best" curry houses in London, this leaves them standing!

Well, I've tried the "best", which was the most expensive, and was more Italian Ragu sauce than curry!

I have found a local curry house that is as British as you can get..... It's probably as good as a middle of the road curry house at home.

However, the portions are H U G E ! ! ! !

The "feast" for two, $30, is easily a meal for four! Always regret it when I can't get off the sofa, but when in Rome.......

 

there's one in Richardson, if you are in Dallas

 

At the moment the Marharaja in Northampton is pretty good, their Chicken Dhansak is the best i haver had in a long, long time possibly ever.

What i have found is that the good chefs do move onto other establishments ansd suddenly the food goes down hill so time to patronise a new place however the Marharaja has alway been damn good.

for me an ideal meal would be
OB for starters, yes i know it is a bit predictable and not really authentic but then again what is!

Stuffed paratha
couple of cobras

I forgot to add Dhaba in downtown TO. Excellent food and service. Just expect it to be hard to get in if Mr Snipes is in town as he rather likes the place, and I can see why

 

Another vote for the brothers in laws here!
The Littleover restaurant is great, I always get a warm welcome and a drink poured the minute I arrive.

I normally go for popadoms and pickle tray to start, followed by a chicken tikka Korai/karahi, pilau and naan/paratha.

Anupam in Great Malvern is pretty good - especially as Great Malvern seemed such an unlikely place to find a decent curry.
