Default HELP! STI NOT PERFORMING TOO WELL, AND KNOCKING NOISE! :S

Hi fella's!

New to the world of Scoobs. Bought one about 2 months ago and the performance was phenominal (has a rumoured 333bhp!). Lately though, the performance has grafually been going downhill. Was thinking it may be the sparks, coil packs or turbo, but have had a full check from Revolution and a 900 quid cambelt service from A S Performance. The car just doesn't want to kick in anymore and there is also a knocking noise from the front which is getting worse each day. Was hoping this was just the heat shield knocking but starting to fear the worst now!

Anyone with any advice? Greatly appreciated!

Model: WRX STi (1993)

Thanks,
Acey2005

Thanks Neil. Gonna get it checked at the weekend!

Have read the post fieldy. Just had brakes done last week though, plus it sounds very rough and still knocks at certain revs even at 60-70mph on the motorway!

Cheers!

ignore me, they first came out in oct 93

After reading the other posts if it is getting worse then it probably is big ends unfortunately. I personally wouldnt drive it until it has been given the once over to prevent further damage

Hmm - My 90000 on my UK Classic cost me 900 quid too (TSL ...) That was a cam belt service and it included a new tensioner, cos the old one was on the way out -

I was doing around 800 miles a week then too, so the services came round Mighty fast !

When you say that the knocking is from the front - does it do it at tickover ? If so, is it coming from under the bonnet or what ?

Picked my 02 STi up last week and took it back the day after - looks like a broken cam bucket - which was 'knocking' like hell !

Sorry lads, couldn't get on at work

Didn't explain it properly. I had the cambelt done, along with a service and other things: Coil packs (240 alone), new brakes all round, Anti roll bar droplink, rocker gaskets, etc etc. Was actually quoted 1,200 quid at Revolution so I was well pleased.

Yeah, it rattles on start-up for a second but soon goes away. Had it in for an mot today and they've agreed that's it's not right. Really low on performance, Though the mechani there never thought it was the engine

Have booked it in at Andy Urwin Engineering next week for another check-up. Here goes!

Cheers!
