A mate of mine has got a M-reg WRX... its has started to develop a whine... more noticeable in the higher gears at low revs... around 30-40mph...
The noise seems to be coming from right underneath the gear stick...
So am I right in assuming its gonna be the diff in the gearbox or something like???
It's fine going into all gears, no nasty noises, just this whineing which has started, any info appreciated...

 

I've got exactly the same problem on my99 uk turbo and it seems to be getting louder the more i drive it! any ideas?

 

Mine did that for a few weeks, then 'gave it a bit' in second and BANG, only had 4th and 5th.

It was rebuilt by Teg Sport last year... just replaced what was needed.... think it cost the previous owner around the £300 quid mark... now the new owner is giving it death!!! hence... the whinning me thinks...
My gearbox rebuild on MY00 uk Turbo was about £350 ish...
The Type R will need doing at some stage... 4th and 5th wern't brill when I had it on the road... gonna sort the engine first...
