Hi all.

I've got a '99 impreza GT (that's the french name of wrx) and I wonder if it's possible to put a front 2006 spec C LSD (quaife-like) into my gear-box?

The GT is the "Turbo 2000" (Classic shape) isn't it??
The WRX name came to the UK in 2001

IF you have a classic "GT" then the 2006 STI has a 6 speed box!! Don't know if it's compatable, but you would probably have dificulty sourcing a diff by itself. Might be easier to find a Quaife or simalar after market LSD to suit.

I'd ask David at API, beyond my knowledge but some would say that's not hard.

Presumming the driveshafts fit then it might but when I swapped to a six speed I had to buy a different Diff ? Why because it must be a different size??!!

Thanks Mark The Spec C 2006 diff will be from a 6 speeder and will not fit a 5 speeder.

You'll need an front LSD or front viscous diff from a 5 speed gearbox. I think we have an LSD type but they can make the car twitchy at the front due to the way the LSD works. Not something I'd recommend unless you have to have it for competition.

hmm if thats the case david the one i bought from Rallydesign in the states must not be a new age helical diff as advertised on their website.
Wonder what it really is then?

 

If I understand what you're saying, you put an STi front LSD in your 5MT gearbox?

A swiss guy who knows gearboxes very well also told me that it would fit...

Look in drive train / limited slip diff's (Sti Helical Front LSD)

I was under the impression that this was the front diff that was used in the latest gearboxes however it might have been fitted to some of the later classic Sti's too by the looks of things.

As there is two different part numbers for the 6 MT and 5MT variety i assume they would be different.

 

I saw it before but maybe the only thing that changes is the "stub shaft kit" ?

Do you have some pictures of this "stub shaft kit" ?

I'll try to ask rallispec if they sell this kit without the LSD...

I have bought one of the above Helical fronts with stub shaft kits and fits perfectly without problem in a WRX MY01>05 gearboxes.
Actually it comes from 5 speed Legacy GT gearboxes thus it mates with the WRX box so don't confuse the 6 speed front LSD (helical or suretrac depending on model) with the above front helical, it's completely different story!
The STI front diff will not fit with or without any stub shaft kit as it's bigger-wider than the WRX front differential where the problem is!
