whats the best engine oil i should put in my scooby? all advice much appreciated

i see!! well its a 1997 turbo 2000.

 

All depends on which model you have and how you drive it. I have a JDM STI and use Silkolene Pro R 15w50 which was reccomended by the person who rebuilt the engine for me, however Subaru advise a 10w40 semi-synthetic for UK Turbo models.

If you put your car model details up here someone will suggest an oil for you......

For your model of car Subaru reccommend a 10w40 Semi-Synthetic (green bottle at halfords), however a good fully synthetic oil will offer better protection.

 

got silk pro in mine uk turbo (5/50 i think) but mine is mapped and runing decat plus also defi's top keep eye on it

just get pro in it, to me oil is like tyres, you get what you pay for, tyres are the only bit of the car contacting the road so you want the best you can get. oil is the life blood of the engine if you don't want metal grating on metal you want a decent oil. thats my ten p's worth.

 

i have got sti v2 with 69000 miles on it which is standard apart from induction kit uprated fuel pump and dump valve.
which oil should i use 10w.50 fully synthetic which make though? shell???

yeah it can do but normally fully synthetic is fine, mate was running a highly tunned 2.33 with 500+bhp on silk pro s (which is whats in mine) i know he did cos he topped his up with spare bottle i've got.
mines a uk turbo wth full decat pannel filter and tech 3 remap by the way.
If you have big engine build or heavily modded engine its best to speak to whoever built the engine anyway.

Better as in degrades less with age, better as in more stable at very high temperatures, also more likely to be better as in having a latest API rating, not some old coconut oil....I could go on......

Mr Reee/PSLewis - you are an ****. I've quite clearly stated that semi-synthetic will be fine, but that fully synthetic, by it's very nature, will provide better protection, however marginal that may be on the car in question.

Yes, agreed, it may last longer - but if you change the oil every 6 months then it isn't a factor.

Stable at high temps? Don't need that stability so why pay for it?

Latest API rating?? The old ratings are absolutely fine!! So why pay more?

Nah, it's utter utter tosh saying buy the most expensive and its better - you don't need aircraft spec oil in the Impreza .... so, why pay for it??

Only idiots and mugs pay more than £15 for 5 Litres of Oil for their Impreza.

Christ sake.........what is your point? I never said he HAD to use fully synthetic, but suggested that semi was fine, as recommended by Subaru. If he wants the best protection available - then he should use fully synthetic. Whether he feels the extra for fully synthetic is justified is down to him.

im going to get the fully synthetic. atleast i know in my head that ive done the best for my engine. beter to be safe than very sorry.

fully synthetic is better for your engine than semi, personally thats what i use and what i will always use. yes you can use semi in your engine but after seeing the oil come out after 3k miles like texas tea, i'm gonna have it changed regulary and with good oil.
