i see!! well its a 1997 turbo 2000.
All depends on which model you have and how you drive it. I have a JDM STI and use Silkolene Pro R 15w50 which was reccomended by the person who rebuilt the engine for me, however Subaru advise a 10w40 semi-synthetic for UK Turbo models.

just get pro in it, to me oil is like tyres, you get what you pay for, tyres are the only bit of the car contacting the road so you want the best you can get. oil is the life blood of the engine if you don't want metal grating on metal you want a decent oil. thats my ten p's worth.
fully synthetic but not sure on rating, best bet is to check with a specialist like www.scoobyclinic.com.

Better as in degrades less with age, better as in more stable at very high temperatures, also more likely to be better as in having a latest API rating, not some old coconut oil....I could go on......

Yes, agreed, it may last longer - but if you change the oil every 6 months then it isn't a factor.

Nah, it's utter utter tosh saying buy the most expensive and its better - you don't need aircraft spec oil in the Impreza .... so, why pay for it??

Christ sake.........what is your point? I never said he HAD to use fully synthetic, but suggested that semi was fine, as recommended by Subaru. If he wants the best protection available - then he should use fully synthetic. Whether he feels the extra for fully synthetic is justified is down to him.

ignore mrReee, its pslewis, the resident i know it all mechanic, who lets face it, wouldn't know a thing if he didn't have his bible, sorry subaru manual, and the magnifying glass to see the wrighting pmsl, hes getting old you know.
fully synthetic is better for your engine than semi, personally thats what i use and what i will always use. yes you can use semi in your engine but after seeing the oil come out after 3k miles like texas tea, i'm gonna have it changed regulary and with good oil.
