Default MY06 Outback safety lock

The manual for the Outback alarm system describes enabling automatic single locking of the doors with engine starting and auto unlocking when switching off. The locking does not appear to work though the unlocking does. Can anyone comment on their experiance with the Outback or possibly the Legacy?

Just a comment but is it supposed to be instant with engine start or is it supposed to be at a preset rpm / road speed?

Some alarms can be set to either method and a hire car I once had locked as soon as the car was moving off...

I think it should be either at ignition on or engine start (if all doors are closed) but I can confirm that it still does not lock even when driving so road speed/rpm does not trigger it.
