Bottom end knocking,whats my options?
Hi,
I have a Version 5 type 'R', Bottom end started knocking 2 weeks ago, I have it booked into Subaru specialists at the end of the month to see what damage there is.
They have told me that I will probably need a new short block, nearly 2k plus fitting!
What i want to know is do I have any other options? I am planning on keeping the car for a long time so want an engine that will be reliable i.e. not some dodgy 2nd hand block!
Can I get a 2.5 block? or would i have to do other mods to make that worthwhile?
The other prob is that i need the car back on the road asap so dont want to wait weeks on rebuilds etc.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Col.

Col,
I had the same problem, but it was very loud
As a rebuild (prob to 2.5) was part of the longterm plan anyway (rather than the short-term as the car decided
) I decided to bite the bullit. Rather than rebuild the 2.0 and then have a 2.5 in a few years time, get it now. Got back it about a week ago from Pavlo. It wasn't that expensive either.
Running in now, but very torquey with lots of pottential

edited to add, mine's and STi3 and the only real mods are the Apexi PowerFC, hybrid turbo (you could probably retain standard one for wery fast response, consult an expert), 3" stainless system, and uprated fuel pump. The rebuild could be very quick as you'd be using a new short block. Good luck
