Hi.
Can anyone advise me as to what oil I should use on a MY99 UK turbo 2000?
I have just been checking levels and the oil is just on minimum..
I am a bit confused from reading my owners manual.

If not, I'd just take it for an interim and have the lot changed. Opinions vary on what brand of oil to use. Suabru reccomend Shell Helix IIRC, this is marketed as a Fully Synth oil but is technically a not a fully synth. Of course, this will be fine.

Some, however, myself included would argue that given the cost difference between a real fully synth oil and somthing like shell helix (about 15 quid every 6 months) you may as well have the best stuff. A real fully synth is better than a non-fully synth oil in the empirical benchmarks used to assess oil! These are the brands to watch out for if you want a proper fuly synth. Silkolene Pro S, Motul, and -I believe- Millers.

I use Silkolene Pro S 10w 50 in mine.

Consult your local friendly specialist if you're not sure. "Oilman" on here is very helpful and dropping him a PM may be a good idea.

Ive been lookin through all the service records and on the last one it was filled up semi 5/30. I am taking it to have a change very soon but I just need to do a top up for now so it doesn't run to empty.
Should I just put a bit of the same back in for now??

 

Not sure how familiar you are with your scooby and based on your question and post count I guess you may be fairly new to ownership. Before adding anything make sure your car is on as level a surface as possible when checking oil levels, also allow a good 30 minutes after a run to ensure as much oil as possible is back in the sump. If its still low, then top it off - overfilling with oil on a scoob is not a good thing.

Mate, honestly, chuck any good semi synthetic in, say COMMA 10W-40 and you will be absolutely fine.

Please, take NO NOTICE of scare stories of immenent engine blow-up if you use anything different .... it's utter carp and bollox.

We are only talking a very small amount to top up - nothing dire is going to happen whatever you use!
