Default cel is on?

hi guys i have just bought a subaru sport estate,i have got in it this morning and the cel as come on and the car is idling up and down and miss fireing?anyone got any ideas,can u check error codes without the scanner?any info would be much appreciated.

not sure with the sport but on the turbo under the dash by your feet will be 2 black plugs and 2 green plug them in and watch the cel it will flash quick and slow watch it remember it and someone will be able to tell you whats wrong

just been to start the car took a while to start,but once started there was no cel light on,but after about 5mins of running it came on and started idling funny,is this the lampda problem or kock sensor?

i will try this cheers for info,i thought you could do this cos on my gt4st205 i can link two pins in the diag plug and get a error code. i will check this and post bak nice1 mate.
