I think there might be some issue with a belt on my my00 type ra classic, the noise is only there when car is cold, i am a complete newbie to imprezas and dont know where to start looking, i have encountered this similar sound on my old golf which was fan belt, do you think its same thing ?

where should i be looking ? and whats best route to fix ? replace belt ?
advice on doing this welcomed
any other ideas on what it could be ?

Check the two belts on the front of the engine.

 

if the belts are in good condition, give them a good clean with Meths then a squirt of silicone spray - that should quieten it down.
