Tried to edit my last entry, can anyone advise how to do this ?

Just read in the local press that the JAP spec 2001 wrx get variable valve timing.

Now, I don't know about your local press, but mine is usualy complete crap.

Can anyone confirm this ?

Over here the local press just copy and paste from the pressbundles the manufactorers or carimporters supply so it reads like an advertisement but the info is, although colored, pretty much right.
But variable valve timing? Surely not a VTEC or VVTi system. They would have to redesign the entire engine for such complicated mechanisms. Am i wrong? (wife says i'm allways wrong )

From a local magazine the new WRX (non STI) is using their so called AVCS technique, similiar to the variable valve timing system. As a result 80% of torque is available from 2,200rpm (about 27kgm ) with peak torque (34kgm) at 3,600rpm. Maximum power is 250ps/6,000rpm. This is for the Japanese WRX model.

Subaru AVCS is a system similar to BMW's VANOS, it alters the valve timing rather than valve lift (as the VTEC or VVT-iL). This system was first introduced in the B4 RS (not RSK).
BTW, Toyota's VVT-i is also a cam-phasing system, it doesn't alter valve lift. Toyota's valve-lifting system is called VVT-iL and it can be found in the 190ps version of the Celica & Corolla.

Thanks for the replies lads.

I wonder if the UK version will have AVCS.

As IM are the importer I expect not!
