andy.. yes i didnt mention it sorry. i live in the middle east. i guess we share the same cars with europe i am not sure. i checked subaru.com.au and saw a pdf file under the download section says the turbocharger type is RHF55 manufactured by IHI but i never heared of such model.
the car is very smooth and spools pretty fast. very different from my previous STI7 but the older one pulls really harder on the mid to high range of rpm.
Never understood this USDM thing, the US is an EXPORT market for a Japanese manufacturer so surely it should be USEM.
In any case the US STi is 300 hp measured in a different way to how it's done in Europe or Japan. An EU 2.5 STi would probably also be rated at 300hp if measured the same way.
The European version can easily achieve much more power, think of the PPP that includes regarding exhaust only a free flow back box and hits 320ps!
What if it had full exhaust with proper map etc?
On the other hand the S204 that is 2.0lt with VVT on both intake-exhaust valves (AVCS) with the VF42 has about 320ps and more torque than our STI in standard form!!!
JDM's come with a VF36/37 depending on model, the S204 has a VF42 though.

weird! a buddy of mine is the owner of a scooby dealer ... he drives a 2006 STi ... he even ordered a VF43 turbo because there was a time that he thought that the turbo in his car was bad.... turbo of his car is oem the VF43
