well this is regarding a 1.8gl wagon, could'nt find another wrx shell cheap enough so bought this instead. when i start it up in the mo before fire hits the pots the fan kicks in fire it over and it wont rev it will just cut out, so after letting it warm up abit engine check goes off and it will go-as expected. it only does it when v/cold ie first thing in the mo-can't for the life of me think what's the problem

Does it have air con? If so then as soon as you put air con on the fan will run whatever the water temp. And before you say it's cold in the morning so air con's not on, just check out the air con light when you select full windscreen demist. The air con comes on automatically in some combinations of heat and screen selections.

But no idea why this should prevent it starting.

no a/c matey! it's a boggo 1.8gl, tis acctually the engine fan that comes on, and if you do manage to rev it, it makes a pop and a farting noise, seems to have only done 6k in the past 3 years and 3 years since last service-eek! could'nt figure why the fan kicked in though?

Wink

I remember reading something about a water temp switch or something like it a while back... this may be your problem... but you'll have to wait for someone else on here to post to confirm it... sorry...
