New to scooby world, mate has just got one, and has heard of Engine management computer foul ups after jump starting a scooby, anyone had this happen to them. Dose it only happen to modied cars or standards as well,

I am intrested as it seems alittle odd from a engineering design piont of veiw, which is a thing of mine. This has been known to effect newer peugoet cars too intrestingly, worth looking into me thinks hmm

Its possible to blow an ecu on any make and model from jump starting if not done correctly the alternator can spike the ecu.There is a piece of equipment that i use that clips to the battery using crock clips that stops any spikes.Also your better of using a jump pack rather than the car to car.

 

So this is not just a strange story then, it is real!! So even normal Alternator peaks can blow an ECU too. Wow! one would think that the ECU would have better supply buffer protection than that, a thing that is simple to do.

The donor car is most at risk in a jump start. As you disconnect the leads, the Alternator on the donor car was charging the flat battery on the other car quite hard, and now isn't, which can pop the ECU, blow off airbags, all sorts of damage. As stated above, you can buy a device which clips across the Donor cars battery, which attempts to protect the donor car.
Some expensive jump leads incorporate such a device.
I would advise that you don't give any one a jump start from your car.
The battery pack that you can buy would be better.
