Should I do the plates first and w**k backwards in size until I've finished the flat, disc-shaped items including saucepan lids, then move onto the cups, finishing with the saucepans and cutlery/utensils?

When I GET to the cutlery/utensils, should I place the blades downwards in the drainer ( to minimise the risk of injury to a ******* stupid **** who shouldn't be interfering with the washing up) or upwards (in order to keep the parts of the tools that are in contact with the food away from the bacteria-infested dribblings that collect in the drainer-pocket).

I don't know how I manage without the advice I get off Scoobynet.

I put plates on the bottom rack with the cups, the cutlery in the basket and the pans and utensils on the top rack. Close the door, select "2" and press "On"

 

Start with the cutlery, then work your way through the dishes starting with the big plates and work your way down in size.

I would stand the cutlery with the eating bits pointing upwards.

I would most definitely leave the saucepans until last.

That's how I'd do it anyway.

Damn it, I forgot to put the 3-in-1 tab in, now I'll just end up with food welded to all my crockery I should have asked advice first!!

 

Would you also suggest the traditional soaking of the saucepans?

With reference to your first question, it's true in this particular case that size is indeed unimportant. Cleanest items first, and don't be afraid to give the dirtier pots a wipe into the bin first with some kitchen roll. There's nothing worse than finding a piece of rice from last Tuesday's curry in your cottage pie.
