Default What's happened to the Rally coverage on ITV?

No Head, Desborough (sp?) etc so far? That lass is annoying too....

ITV look to be cutting back. Not enjoying it so far, may as well watch it on Eurosport

Thoughts?

PeteT - something to do the re-start rules I think. Don't know the ins and outs of it though!

Great result for Gronholm and Ford!

a couple of seasons ago they brought in a "super-rally" rule whereby if u dont finish a day you can restart the next day with a 5 minute penalty.

was brought in to try and keep sponsors happy by letting car run all weekend instead of losing the publicity after crash / mechanical breakdown on first day imho

They need a 5 minute penalty for everyone except Loeb who gets 20 minutes. Imagine if Gronholm had binned it, Loeb throws it off the road, doesn't finish one stage but still wins the rally.

I can see how keeping sponsors, and of course spectators, happy by keeping as many cars running as possible is important but not if it affects the results.

Last season you could continue the next day after binning it, but couldn't score points.

This season seems you can just get a penalty.

I'm not sure of the details; why couldn't Solberg continue???

Also, apart from Subaru, which manufacturers only teams exist? Even Ford is 'BP Ford' or something...

I hope Solberg wins this year, but I'd be happy if Gronholm did. Just as long as it isn't that french tw@t, Schumacher or whatever his name is...

He had a bit of trouble on the road section after a stage clip. He then spent the rest of the rally debating mpg on Scoobynet...

Yes, not sure about the commentators either, had more than a hine of 'Trans World Sport' about it. Don't miss dopey Robbie Head but the other 2 were ok.

As for the re-start rules, that's just plain silly imho, if you bin it and can't get back on the road you should be out. It's worked that way for years, no need to change it now.

Cheers for the link, Greatnorth (didn't even know SN had a WRGB/WRC forum!!)

Even last year I thought that JWRC was more interesting. Especially the cars...

That coverage was really ******* annoying Listening to a patronizing bitch reading from a script.
Where was Robbie Head ???????? Well done ITV, sack the only man that knew what he was talking about.

If they keep it like this, then I'll be turning off, and I probably won't be the only one. ITV will then say that viewing figures are down, no one wants to watch Rally any more, so they'll then cancel the coverage.

It's business not sport.
Yes, commentary pretty rank but it's not aimed at enthusiasts.
Might catch some punters on the sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
If you weren't knowledgeable how many cars would you think competed on a WRC round based on TV coverage?

**** poor commentary, bring back Robbie & John did not like the new split time listing or the crap game controller screen shot between clips, missed the lovely scenery shots that capture the essence of the rally and to top it off I missed Solbergs reliability

solberg cpuldnt continue cos he'd blown the engine, and wrc are trying to reduce costs to get more manufacturers interested so you only get one engine.

And 10 events are "twinned" ie 2 lots of 5 rallies where you have to run the same engine or face a penalty
