It's an LG ............ you must expect crap I'm afraid

Don't even think about contacting their Customer Services ....... utterly useless, unfair and pathetic!!

My best advice? give LG a WIDE berth!!

Sorry that doesn't help you, but if it stops someone buying LG then it will, at least, save them from a shambolic company.

First check : make sure the Sky box is set on RGB not composite - makes the world of difference

A poorly shielded scart lead can pick up noise and crosstalk - this manifests itself as loads of random little dots - very noticable on the sky guide (NOT square blocks! - that's digital compression, not noise). Can happen on a £1.99 lead or a dodgy £50 lead.

Turn off all adaptive picture settings (sometimes these can cause more problems than they cure). And mess around 'till you've found a setting that works.
