Hi,
I have a MY00 Uk turbo which I think has a dodgy clutch. Everytime I change gear the revs spike up like someone is blipping the throttle however I am not certain if this is what people call a slipping clutch. Apologies but I am not really too sure about what to look for with dodgy clutchs so any advise will be really appreciated.

I only bought the car in Nov with 37k on the clock from Research Subaru in Nuneaton and is under warranty so if anything is amiss I want to get it sorted.

does it not seem to accelerate correctly?

when you accelerate and you think its slipping back off and you will feel it pick up again.

if the clutch is slipping, get it sorted sooner rather then later, bcoz it can damage the flywheel.

i changed mine on the P1 weekend just gone, only started slipping 3 days before.

Will check revs when I accelerate and then back off to see if they are still rising.

 

The usual method to test for a slipping clutch is to stick your foot down with the car in a high gear for the speed, e.g. 30mph - 4th, 40mph - 5th. If the revs rise unsually quickly then the clutch is slipping. Should be able to tell by listening to the engines as well as looking at the rev counter. Warm the car up first before trying this.

Will try this tonight on the way home, really hope there is nothing wrong, just dont need the hassle of having to take it back to the dealer and getting them to sort it under warranty

 

i've had clutches go on a number of vehicles , not only cars but vans,lorries as well
i thought recently i had a problem with the scoob which felt similar to a slipping clutch but it was an uprated 1 and had only done 4000 miles so i thought it was something else
went to a jap garage and they confirmed it was the clutch
do what graz says , try it in 5th or 4th , when it hits boost , watch the rev counter
or take it back anyway and get the garage to check it out

 

I'd prefer to test it in the highest gear but at speeds when boost (read torque at flywheel) comes into play. Torque below 2k rev might not be great enough to introduce clutch slip.
You'd best try it both ways

Shailet, I wonder if your car had been modified at some point in the past?
37k miles for a std car seems early for a clutch to go IMO even if it has done track days (but perhaps not if the strip has been used...).
