Don't laugh but I'm going to try and build a 2.33 on a budget. I've got an option on a new EJ22T for not bad money but will need to get the uprated parts on the cheap too.

What I need at this stage is suggestions on where/what to buy in the way of crank, pistons and rods. I was thinking of an STI 9 crank but not too sure about the other components.

Feel free to mock or make suggestiosn as you see fit.

dont quote me on this bt i think you need the crank for a 2.5 to do it?

And a gas load more other stuff and detail!

I doubt very much 2.33 and budget go together to be honest. Once the bottom end is built, you will need suitable heads, cams and turbo to get the most out of your short motor. Then depending on what you have and what you want to do, you may have to look at alternative management etc.

I know i need a 79mm crank (STI 9) but want to junk the stock pistons and rods for forged ones but not sure what the best makes were. That and what is good value for money.

 

i wouldnt of thought an sti9 crank was good enough for a 2.33ltr build ???? rodger clark motorsport does some good pistons but they arent budget. these do reasonably priced stuff and are pretty helpfull

Thanks for the well thoughout advice Shaun,

to give you the full picture I already have a few mods on my current motor (STI 5) but felt I was coming to the limit on the standard internals. So I got some prices on a built 2.0 CDB and there didn't seem to be too much of a difference to go that little but further and get my dream team spec.

Apexi PFC, AVCR
Walbro pump and sx reg
Apexi 740's
H&S 3" decat and Apexi N1 sytem
and probably a load of other things that I can never remenber and add that to my current heads.

Should say at this point I've decided to go the whole hog and get Axis to take care of the oily bits for me. Should be fun!

Can you believe that the 2.5ltr short motor on ebay (US)with just 2000 miles on it has just sold for $459.... how mad is that... about 250quid!!!!! i should have bought it, too late now though!

 

i just came back from usa and when i was there i cashed £100 up and got $163 plus in usa they then have to add their tax to everything so it would of been more than that for the 2nd hand block plus it didnt sell as it didnt reach its reserve, personally id buy that ej22t block and get it shipped to the UK as he ships world wide

 

A bog standard Ej257 crank has worked well for me so far, all subaru cranks are made from quallity forgings, and are overall a very good piece of kit. An sti9 crank is ony 75mm stroke anyway so will not yield 2.3+ capacity.
