How can I make my Impreza chatter ? do I need a different wastgate ?

 

you want the turkey gobbling sound ?

its got nothing to do with wastegate at all, if you could hear an internal waste gate working, you then need to wear your red underpants on the outside, what you want I think is the sound of the turbo blades cutting through slightly compressed air at supersonic speeds, std turbo aint gonna do it either unless using a front mount, try an open intake pipe, or something like hks racing suction, up the boost and stffen the dump valve, as you close the throttle you want to hear the "noise effect"
a 05h - 20 G, HKS racing suction and stiff dump valve do ths on a WRX, but I think you will get tired of the noise in a short while

 

I was told an external wastegate would make it chatter, a lad i know with a supra changed his to an external wastegate and got the chatter, totally diffrent cars i know but he told me they should do the same, my other mate has a 400bhp impreza and his chatter sounds class (yes hes got a front mount intercooler), i dont think i'll get sick of it, ive had a dump valve on every single turbo car i've owned (r5 gt turbo, fiesta turbo, escort turbo) plus it helps the turbo.
I'm new to the impreza work as you can tell and havnt a bloody clue, took me 5minutes to figure out how to pop the bonnet I used to own a Escort Rs Turbo so i know fords inside out and was going to put the ZVH bottom end on my old car to convert it from MFI to EFI, thats the only way they can chatter, t3 garette turbo with a -31 actuator, but with an impreza I've no idea at all.
So your saying if i get a front mount intercooler it will chatter yes ??

try taking the dump vavle off and blocking the hole that should give you what you want

 

Fit a FMIC, get loads of chatter from mine since i fitted one.

 

I've just got a SUS induction kit, and Blitz BOV on my intake system and this chatters quite a bit!

iv heard that takin off any dump valves and pluggin the holes would work too cos it forces some of the compressed air back thru the turbo instead of being released thru the dump valve. a little more boost would prob help too!!
