Wat is best all rounder classic gearbox/diff to have. We all know STi RA great 0-60 but not drivable on a motorway really. So wat has been found to be best all rounder gearbox with good 0-80 and still somewat drivable to take on a long journey consisting of going on a motorway at some stages.

IMO:
A V6 model Sti box.
Strongest of the 5 speeders, snappy ratios (but remember for an Sti engine ie 8K rpm max) and a good 5th for the motorways.

Sort of available too secondhand (www.apiengines.com)

is that actually true? it was my impression that pretty much all the 5 speed gearsets were of similar resiliance, and that actually the casting of the newage boxes 2000-on was actually stronger?

Have a UK six speed on my classic and I am very very happy with it. Doddle to fit too Providing it goes on a UK car. All you need is a propshaft from an automatic or a six speed prop and the linkage. It bolts straight on.

A Classic shape auto propshaft will be wrong on a New age car, as the centre prop support bearing is offset and you end up with a dog leg in the driveline.

I was looking at putting a type RA box in, but a 6 speed... I'm interested now will these go into an MY93 WRX just as easily?

Was more thing from the available 5 speed gearboxes from any classic car. Not 6 speed conversions. Also can you put a gearbox in from a car with diff control to a car that hasn't?????
