I am suffering with V tight gear selection this cold weather. I changed the Oil to a Semi Synthetic GL5 75/90 as the oil that was in seemed V thick.

This seems to have made no difference, infact may be worse. Car is fine once you have done a few miles but my first few miles are stop & start so you have to work the Box & it's hard work.

Whats the slipperiest !!! Oil you can use in a 6 speed ??
Has anyone run one on Automatic Transmission Fluid ??? without issues ???

Box has done 47,000 miles, so you would not think the Syncro's would be to worn , But who knows how it has been treated / abused before !!!

My 38K Jag X type does this also, when 'exercised' a few times all is well. Done this from new.
My 911 box did the same until I changed the oil to a specialist reccommended Shell oil and fantastic since.
What i'm trying to say is it is common in other cars.
Try a call/email to David at API, he combs these threads at times so might offer a solution.

My JDM Six sped box does it, when cold on these cold mornings I have to give it a real shove into gear. But okay once warmed up.

I just put up with it.

I suppose it is one of those things that you eventually except. I could try SynTrax (if thats the one that people Rave about) just to see if it does make any difference. I have spoke to David & he says possible Syncro Mesh, Baulk Ring issues, but suggests living with it a while & see how i fair. If i had open road first off on my Journey to work it would be fine

I have had Syntrax in mine (03 spec C) for 12,000 miles, added lsd lube as Syntrax doesnt have any.
Gearchange improved greatly over that with stock fluid (treacle).
There is still a noticable improvement in smoothness of shift when warm/hot but I dont boot it when cold, so can put up with it
5th to 6th under power could be better. Always have to change more slowly than I would like. I suspect oil is not escping from between syncro and hub, quickly enough.
This used to be a problem with M21 & M22 Muncie transmissions (4 sp GM), trick was to drill 5 x 1/32" holes in syncro. Muncie's are a lot more easy to work on than scooby 6 speeds though. So mine will stay in place until it goes bang.
Will try a bit more lsd additive when I change the oil again next week.

Do you really want slippier oil ? If the rings baulk it could be due to too much slip. Synchro rings need friction to synchronise the hub speeds, they don't engage the gear until they do. Try something thinner/less slippy !
