I have a 53 plate sti type uk prodrive and whilst donuting in the snow the car was fine.....when I went to pull away I thought I had done the clutch as the car could not pull up the hill but I could not smell clutch then I noticed that the speedo was going up with the rev counter. someone said it was half shaft....anyone know if that is possible and if so is it an expensive job?

The car really stuggles up hill and runs up fine but feels like the power is not getting to the wheels.

Any info will be greatly appreciated.

just put the car in first gear and put the handbrake on and the car does not move....looked under the car and the driveshaft is spinning on the front drivers wheel but the other three are not moving.....what have I done???

 

Broken a driveshaft by the sounds of it.....

AT the hub end I guess, We have shafts in stock. Be careful you may destroy the front hub too, with too much spinning going on.

The drive shaft or rather the cv joint, is at it's weakest when on full lock which i assume you were using whilst perfecting you'r dognut technique?
Ideally dont use full lock and once you get the car spinning you should be able to reduce the lock further or even point the wheels straight and still maintain your piroet if you ever decide to try again that is?

 

it was the driveshaft that broke.......the car is in with Subaru having it fixed under warranty....when I get it back I will try it with slightly less lock so see how I get on!!!

Becareful what you post, this board is read by people from IM and if you abuse your car you basically invalidate its warranty (read the small print).
First one may be a good will gesture, the next may cost you a packet
