I run an Exedy Uprated Organic and never had any probs.

Lots and lots of drag strip abuse too.

exedy is the standard STI clutch so it can handle a bit more power but the AP is proven to work well on a lot of high output cars.

Exedy hold the patent for that kind of clutch as far as I know, AP just fiddle a bit and rebrand.

David at API knows about these. I got an organic one from him in a GB, certainly not overpriced -considerably cheaper than the AP, even at the std price if memory serves. Excellent clutch too, light progressive and NO judder at all!

As for toughness, in the GB I was part of there were people with 400bhp scoobies buying them and David had no reservations about honouring the warranty up to this level. I fact, I think he said he'd never had one back under warranty.

Retail £320.00 plus VAT for cover, disc and bearing. Takes up to 400 hp, doesn't judder. hundreds of satisfied customers on either group buy or singles.

How is that overpriced and not the best ??

From API IIRC add £200 to cost of clutch. I'm sure David will correct me If I've mis-remembered!

There is a group buy on this clutch on at the mo I think, check out the GB section

P1;
Think you should call David as I know he does several options on flywheels.
I personally would be tempted by his 'reasonably lightened' flywheels, skimmed etc. They are about 8Kg in weight iirc, and stock are about 11Kg.

Hi, The 03 Exedy clutch from me comes with the bearing. There isn't a running GB on the late clutch at the moment probably because of the relative newness of the vehicle.

When you're ready, call me up and l'll get you sorted. We don't offer a light flywheel for the 6 speed based on taking weight off the original. We worked for about 3 days on one and managed to shave off 2 Kg's which is not worth the effort.

There is a billet steel one available but unless you really need it I wouldn't bother.

I have run the AP Racing Organic Uprated at 535-585 bhp 460-500 ft/lbs. Failure after 20,000 mls was brought about when the pressed metal web was torn out of the clutch but the clutch plate friction material showed very little wear despite numerous standing starts.
The WRX Wagon has run the same clutch for nearly 20k miles too but only circa 400 bhp 355 ft/lbs.

It would cost you significantly more to have the std clutch fitted by a subaru dealer, than an uprated by an indpendent specialist. The uprated clutch itself costs about £290 if you can get it in a GB from David at API -I think there is one running at the moment- have a look in the GB section. Compare that to quotes for a std replacement clutch and work out whethere you're prepared to pay the diff. Changing it is a big job, so I'd suggest you get it done right first time!

The new owner would be much happier with the uprated one.....how generous are you feeling?

my exedy organic started slipping after 4000 miles, 350 bhp/345 torque
did take some abuse but not a massive amount. anyway,i 'risked' buying another 1 , got it from David , was totally different from the 1 i took out.
so,if you do go for an exedy then get it from APi and not the other place, which incidentally are alot dearer,i won't mention there name but re-arrange skill and cam

happy xmas david

That sounds incredible Bob. 40,000 mls at 535-585bhp bhp with lots of standing starts.
You have experience of this Bob?

EXEDY supply the covers for all of the above (AP, Helix and their own) so the basic difference between all of them is the plate material!!

have used all of them and to be honest there's not a lot of difference apart from the AP seems to 'bed-in' almost immediately......................

got plenty of customers cars running well over the recomended torwue for these without issue
