quick question on the wrx models

quick question on the wrx models
total newbie question but i have been looking at some wrx's around the 01-02 plates, i see they range from 225 to 300.
just wondered is it just the ecu that is different between the wrx and sti?

There are a few variants of 'official' UK spec 01/02 'bug eye's, IIRC 215HP for the WRX, 245HP for a WRX with PPP (Prodrive performance pack, although 01 cars that were PPP'd later could be 265HP), 261HP for the WRX STi and 300HP (ish) for the WRX STi with PPP.
Anything else you see quoted is either modded, or a Japanese grey import which are different (or of course wrongly quoted by the owner
)
The 225HP WRX started with the later 'blob eye' WRX.
