Question Re-map time looming! Questions....!

Hi guys, got a 2001 bug eye wrx with 53k, Got all 4 TSL de-cat exhaust pipes, cold air induction kit, TD05 turbo, 255 fuel pump, & am just about ready to get them fitted to the car prior to re-map day and have got a few technical questions as follows before I book anywhere. Help.

Where to go for re-map, near peterborough? Recomendations please.

Exhaust heat shield wrap bandage, is this a good idea as pipes are of the car? is it queter? does it guarantee flames? does it keep engine bay cooler?

I look forward to hearing what you experienced guys have to say on the matter, many thanks.

I would suggest Paul at Zen performance would be your closest bet, hes in wellingborough so a quick trip down the A45 i believe

it depends how far your prepared to travel really!

Exhaust wrap is a good idea to help keep the temperature away from the engine, it wont assist flames as far as im aware....! Obviously much easier to put them on if the pipes are off the car!!

As above we now do Ecutek remapping for all subarus, the only thing I see missing from your spec are some bigger injectors, some STI pink injectors would be ideal.

We have exhaust wrap and injectors and can fit you in for a remap before christmas no problem.

Smile Zen Performance!

Hi guys, Many thanks for your help. For instance I had never heard of Zen Performance before, I was seriosly considering WRC Technologies @ Silverstone as only £499 !!! TSL is £650+ vat ( ouch )

Now then, Pink injectors, would this make a differance to fuel economy?
As I want her to be no more thirsty than she is now, the car is used every day!
Yes I know that I would probably regret it if I don't, because more horses means more grin factor. But at the end of the day I MUST stop somewhere!
I mean 280 bhp is plenty surely! with comparable economy.
What are your thoughts?

Your injectors need changing because the ones you have cannot supply enough fuel at high revs to keep up with the amount of air your chosen turbo will flow. Never done a td05 on a WRX, but I imagine you'd be limited to around 1 bar (or less) over 6k rpm if you don't swap injectors. This may not be possible with your TD05

If you're really determined not to swap injectors, consider another turbo - the early vf series (23, 24, 28) all run out of puff earlier than the TD05 and would be a better match IMO.

Injectors have no impact on fuel consumption except when running at WOT....if you use light throttle then most remaps improve fuel consumption.....but you're unlikely to use a light throttle after a remap

380cc injectors will probably still be okay if your not going for insane power levels. Just had mine mapped last week with a power fc, full decat and filter (should have a td05 but it has been swapped at some stage for a vf series - cannot remember which one) injectors are only running at 80% and cope easily with no det, holding 1.1 bar in 3rd 4th and 5th. Not det includes going to the rev limit. Mine is a 93 wrx though so I think the injectors will be different. (top feed and side feed)
Fuel economy has improved quite considerably for me (probably down to a weak regulator) was getting approx 180 miles on a tank, now getting another 60+ miles, with some hard driving as well. I find now that I dont drive it as fast everywhere as I know what it can do. Best money that I have ever spent.

Paul at Zen has just done mine (MY99 incidentally ), with a few added mods, took it out earlier for a drive and have still not stopped smiling, awesome is the word that comes to mind. For what it's worth I suspect fuel consumption at normal busy A road speed (40-60 mph) has actually improved, may well be a different story once you start using the performance available.

WRC Technologies - well I had a 60K service booked, turned up (about 1 hrs drive each way) and they couldn't do it due to a problem with some other car, rebooked for a week later and was called the day before to be told that their Subaru mechanic had left and they would ring me back when they had found a replacement. Still waiting for that call. I don't think that this is typical of WRC but it has definetly put me off them.

I maxed out my stock injectors with a TD04.. you def need some 'pinks' atleast.IF your worried about MPG, you bought the wrong car dude!
WRC-Tech is awsome. They mapped my baby. Chris can really dial in ALOT of torque! And as the old phrase goes, HP sells cars, torque wins races.

Yes, I was there the day after 'medic' was no longer employed by WRC. So they only have one tech doing the dirty work (at the time).

Sadly we still do not have an experienced Subaru Service person, we are only looking at people with standard service experience, so we can offer quick service options. We are currently OK on skilled people for mechanical upgrades and engine rebuilds.

Cheers

Another recommendation for Paul @ Zen.
I've done nearly 1000 miles snce the remap 2 weeks ago and the great surprise is fuel consumption.
Constant boost and I'm into the high teens/low 20 mpg - but that was expected.
I do a lot of long runs for business. MPG has gone from av of 24.5 to just under 30's and that isn't hanging around, so the remap will pay for itself within 12 months in fuel savings.

LOL He was a bunghole but its a competition thing.. I understand.

I loved the part where he was like "TurboXS and Perrin parts"? "They suck"! "WOW, that car made how much power"? *gasp* "Thats the highest I have ever heard of with the mods and APS S/R30 turbo"!

Love those sucky parts! But I am sure its Chris' tune that had alot do to with it! You guys are the best. Really, thanks for everything. Will see you guys soon.
