Has anyone here ever used Castrol R in their Subaru? I just love the smell and as my new 2.5 will soon be ready I thought I might run on it. Is it suitable?

When I used Castrol RS 10/60 in my Mini, it had a faint whiff from it. Mind you, it did burn a little oil, so I wouldnt expect to smell anything from a Subaru.

I was very surprised to smell it even from the Mini considering its a synthetic oil and not related to Castrol R in any shape or form.!!

Plenty of people even commented at the time about the smell.

 

Very unwise to use this oil in an everyday road car. It's caster based and although caster oil is a superb lubricant it has not got the properties for anti-sludge, long life, corrosion resistance etc. It's meant for competition use and even then only in a small minority of race engines these days.
