Just Curious
hi mate
from what i can ascertain from a couple of p1 owners i know who've blown their engines, the crank is really the only weak part of a subaru engine.
so it can't be a bad thing to have a hardened one, as long as it has actually got one and the dealer or seller wasn't just blowing smoke up your ***.

By Hardened crank I assume they mean 'Case Hardened' which must be machined off the mating faces to give a smooth surface ................ so, the benefits are very limited.
Plus, the bearings are designed to wear out before any real component .....
As for the Crank being the weak link ......... what goes wrong with it then?? The bearings might wear out - but thats not the crank.
