ECU remapping
hello dudes and dudesses! i have got a stock 1997 subaru impreza wrx wagon, pushing around 240bhp. i have just invested in a complete decat exhaust system from turbo to back box. what kind of bhp gains am i looking at? and also i have been offered an APEXi power ECU. Is this worth considering?

the car sounds alot nicer of course, but i thought i would feel a better pull. is this because i need an ecu re map?

you seem quite entheusiastic about the re map... have u had a good experience? i had a 1993 impreza before the wagon i have now, and i went through 3 engines in 2months
the APEXi ecu i had in there was too much for the vehicle. i live in manchester, and i went to wolverhampton and back an found that i melted a third piston and was getting back-pressure because i had blew the ring pistions! do u think it would be a good idea to invest in oil cooler, front mount intercooler and uprated fuel pump before i do the re-map or change ecu?
thanx saxx

do a search on here no need for a remap, the scooby uses a maf so if it sees more air flow it adjusts fuel accordingly.
best to monitor knock and lamdba though
seems like you were running too much boost in your last car and not mapped all that well. The mappers usually run very rich at high revs to save the pistons at the cost of some power.
there is a fault is the in the fuel system on the scooby as no 3 cylinder can see reduced fuel perssure, that was maybe the cause of your melting pistons.
just take it easy with boost and you should be fine. what boost do you intend running?

)I think the map must be very close to the edge even on 100ron.. would be interesting to get some 100ron jap fuel and try it.

iv jus had some gauges put in my car. it would appear that my existing wrx is runninng a 1bar boost. does that sound right?
thank god and fingers crossed i've had no problems with this version 3 wrx engine, infact it hasnt cosumed a drop of oil since oil change (2500miles ago) and the oil still just as clean as when i put it in...
i've been told that these stock engines can handle about 1.4 bar boost? i dont rellay want to mess with the boost, bad experience in the past
cheers saxx
