Knocking when turning right
Anyone have any idea what this could be? Speed of knocking related to the speed i'm driving. Sounds almost like a cv but has been up on the ramps at a local garage and they can't find anything obviously wrong with the bushes, cv etc. It's a 98 STi type r. Happens on any lock off central.

I have a knocking sound when i turn left, seemed to appear after the turbo back decat went on.......doesn't sound healthy and it's more of a knock and grind effect, had it up on the ramps no visual wear or anything obvious....

Sounds almost identical to mine! Appears to be coming from front LHS. Very worrying and doesn't sound too cool when you drive past people and all they hear is clack clack clack, scrape, whine, clack....... The next person that laughs!.....

Whats a gaitor - anything to do with the suspension? - I'm now wondering if its anything to do with the shock absorber - again though why would it just do this on cornering/turning in a certain direction?
I've have a terrible scraping/clicking on turning right - if I do a fll circle the noise drives me mad........ it doesnt do it from cold just once its warmed up
I had the problem on both sides now after spending over £1k on 2 sets of driveshafts, wheel bearings and brakes the sound is only on the rhs
I have a feeling its still the brakes but I dont see how this would not then also occur in a straight line
Had it up on the ramps - nothing at all obvious - and very, very annoying - especially the cost of probably changing parts that didnt need changing
Is there anyone out there that could recommend a garage that 'could' resolve the problem? - not easy though - if you cant see it on the ramp and you've no idea what it is when your in the car - what chance is there!!?

Strange if you are being told that its not a cv joint.
90% of the time a noise like this is an outer cv joint, not possible to tell just by looking underneath the car ,especialy if the gaiter (this is the rubber ribbed cup that holds the grease in for the cv joint)has been changed.
It is possible that the inner cv joint has the problem but you would normally get some sounds when driving in a straight line also.
IMO,if it is a whel bearing then it would have a whining/grinding all the time when moving and louder when turning corners.
If youre not sure about cv joint/gaiter being changed in the past then look for tell tale signs of grease, usually little dots around the hub/inner wheel area where it can splatter from driving with a split gaiter (unless the person who did the work spent a lot of time cleaning the splattered grease away)

Sorry just re read your post
Im baffled if you spent £1000 on changing parts and still have a problem?????
Did you have brand new parts fitted?ie new inner+ outer cv joints and bearings?

Need to look at this
I've spend too much time money, which I had always assumed was either brakes or CV Joint related!!
Onto my 3rd Driveshaft on the rhs - in the last 3 months - full d/s is easier to replace than a CV joint
£100 a time from API
I will check the inner arch liner - which could be a problem - The wing has been buckled and needed respraying the other week - dont know what caused it - it just buckled!! - so maybe the wheel is catching the liner... and pulling on the wing.........
Bearings where clearly an un-necesary spend - live and learn and wont be buying a Subaru ever again..............
