Default what ecu upgrade

Hi all, I need some advice on an ecu. I have read most of the past posts. I have a JDM sti 2 with a few minor mods; decat, walbro, induction kit, and would like to bypass the need for looking after the dreaded maf sensor (which I think is failing). What ecus are available that can do this (not counting the too expensive Motec).
Thanks

Tom

SNAP!!! I'v got exactly the same car with the same mods (and a few more)! I believe that GEMS do a kit that is rally based and the MAF is not used for it. However, I think this is about the same cost as the MOTEC kit!

Apexi seems to get good reviews on here, I'm saving for one now, however, it still uses the MAF as Apexi aren't so far on as MOTEC and GEMS yet, elthough I believe they'll be realising something similar soon!

I've just emailed him. I've also looked at Autronic, Possum Link and scoobyecu. What other mods you got?

Here's a list -

H&S 3" Downpipe
Blitz NUR spec center section and 4" back box
Blitz SUS Power induction kit
Blitz blow off valve
Apexi SAFC controller
Running 1.2 bar boost on MBC

My cars getting a rebuil as we speak as the crank, shells and 2 rods are knackered! Once it's back I'm going to fit a Version 5 TMIC, 440cc injectors and then save for an Apexi Power FC!!!

Hopefully get 350bhp with bags of torque!!

I thought STI's had 440 cc injectors as standard? Maybe that was on later models

Yeah, I believe that V1 and V2's have the smaller 380cc injectors and the later models have the 440cc injectors!

get a MAF off something else and adapt it to fit. All a MAF does is provide a varying voltage depending on airflow, so a PFC can be mapped to suit. The 300zx one has been done before and is substantially bigger although is the same make and probably fails as often

Anyway, if you have a PFC and the MAF starts to fail, it won't compensate for it like a standard ecu and you'll know pretty quickly.

Also the MAF on the earlier car is less prone to failing.
