my local garage sell 97ron unleaded is this ok or do you need more?
also is it ok to turn the engine off to fill up straight away or should you wait for it to cool down?
any other tips etc would be helpfull

The fuel grade you can use depends on which model you have. Is it a UK/Euro car or a Japanese or other import? Has it been modified at all? Is it an STI?

As above...not all subarus are the same...even from the factory.

minimum fuel requirements can range from 95RON to 100RON

Only need to let run a for a few mins to cool down after thrashing it or high speed motorway use. But tottering round off boost and below 3000rpm for a few mins before parking and switching instead is more than enough.

its a 2001 wrx, only mod is prodrive exhaust, been using 97 ron is that ok,
but had to put some 95 ron in other day as was empty and only unleaded they had.

so as long as the car hasent been thrashed im ok to turn off the engine for a few mins to fill up.

Welcome "proud new owner"!!!

I'm a bugeye WRX owner too and the only mod I currently have is a Magnex b/box and decat centre pipe.

I always run my car on super unleaded, mainly because it feels more responsive at lower revs, however it also used to 'murmer' slightly at around 2700 rpm's when running on 95ron but is fine on SUL.

If I've just been pottering around town at <3k rpm's I'll turn the engine off pretty much straight away, however after motorway or 'spirited' driving I let her idle for at least 1 minute before switching off.

A good habit to get into, regardless of how you've just driven the car, is to turn the engine off as the last thing before shutting the drivers door. So unload shopping; get mobile phone, wallet; etc; do up windows; get child out of the car; put coat on.....you get the idea. THEN turn off ignition and shut/lock drivers door.
