Newbie about to buy my first STI
Hi all,
I'm in the process of stricking a deal to get an STI-RA on an N plate. I've never driven a turbo before (previous car was a CRX VTI) so I'm not sure what to look out for when viewing this car.
Can you please let me know of any pointers or commen faults/things to look out for
Thanks
Aid

same as most cars really, however check for the obvious smoke, check the water (dont worry if it appears dirty they commonly do - only worry if it is a bit mayonaise), check the oil levels for the engine and gearbox (the gearbox has a dipstick near the turbo a the back of the engine).
Check the idling quality, does it stutter or race, on the test drive check for any hesitations etc as it should pull smoothly without hesitation. Try to get it in 4th or 5th and go full throttle to make sure it doesnt cut out (a sign that it is overboosting) find out what fuel it has been run on etc also timing belts, just general things.

sounds obvious, but there's ALWAYS another car, don't let your heart rule your head, especially when you hear it fire up
I would be looking at any immediate bills, big service just around the corner? Tyre condition?
As has been said, fuel quality very important. Servicing a must.
And don't forget the usual stuff, HPI check, take a look at all of the panel gaps, should be nice and even. Paperwork check, import certs/conformity etc.
Good luck anyway
