Default Registration plate fixing?

Just tried to swap my registration plates over on my MY54 STi as have bought some custom ones. Tried to unscrew the plastic screws used to fit the original plates and the heads of the screws just broke off, leaving the threaded part still screwed in :-/ Anyone know of a way to fix this? The Doncaster dealer just said to cut the protruding bit of the screws back and stick the plates on with industrial strength double sided sticky tape. I'm not sure I want to do this as it will be very difficult to change the plates if I decide to do it again in hte future. Any help would be great.
Cheers, Toby
