Can you Rear wheel drive an Impreza
Hi, I have a 1999 2.0 Turbo impreza UK spec and simply love it.
The only thing i would love to change it the All Wheel Drive.
Can you Rear Wheel Drive An Impreza ??
I know its crazy but i love drifting and Impreza's simply have too much traction. I enjoy drifting all wheels but you have to really push the car hard to break the traction, the traction would break allot easier if it was just rear wheel drive.
All replies welcomed.

Yes fit a dccd centre diff, run it in lock with the front driveshafts out and someway of stopping your box oil pissing all over the road.
tbh with dccd, once the rear wheels break traction all the power is pushed through them so you can keep it going, usually encountering a ditch shortly afterward.

Call me stupid but what is a DCCD Centre Diff ?
I can just refit the inner CV's from the front driveshafts to stop the oil pissing out and fit the outer CV's to keep the front wheel bearings in tact.

You're stupid

It's a Driver Controllable Centre Diff fitted to type-ra/r classics which allows you to alter power distribution. If you run it in Lock (intended for the rough stuff) it locks the centre. And yes, good idea (i hadn't even thought of anything that simple lol) - that'll do it.
Now you've just gotta find one for sale... (i've got one in the shed if you're interested
)

Yes you can, there is a company out there somewhere that do it but don't ask me who
I was speaking to one of the Autocar photographers last year at the sideways challenge and he had it done to his car
link to the video, http://www.autocar.co.uk/movies.asp?page=3 (4th clip down) Its the grey wagon in the clip

No if you run it in lock it'll, as you'd expect, lock 50:50 with no slip. If you haven't got any front driveshafts in it'll just power the rears. Probably.
You might find a better rear diff helps too.
