Some of you may have seen my rants over SN in the last 24hrs - for the benefit of the rest of you (the lucky ones ), my bottom end has just started knocking.

I'm still deciding what to do - I've got another engine lined up or I may go the 2.5 route...

But, once my current engine comes out, I want to have a crack at rebuilding it! I've changed head gaskets and stripped and rebuilt a head before but I'm a bottom end virgin

So my questions are:

1) What's the worst I can do to an already fubarred bottom end?

2) How much will need to be done by a man with gauges and other esoteric tools?

3) Good books? I've seen some on amazon but at £60 each I'd prefer not to buy them all!
