might be looking for a cheap and cheerful replacement box for someone until their funds increase..

So how much is a second hand 5 speed box for the turbo at the moment?

Think I've set my direction on a synchro helical ppg gearset with stock Sti 5th ratio.
Just go to amass the $$$$ and convince the wife...

This will be the Xmas project as long as the current trans holds out (it's lasted all season so far with a lot of abuse and some nasty missed shifts too recently.
Colin: Are thinking along the same lines?

Graham.

graham, you need more power first.. I still think your car isnt producing 400bhp.

380ish maybe

More power = too much money, but you may well be right David. i still cannot catch the EVO at 450 bhp, and it is the long straight bits of the hill climb that i loose him on (and the startline).
Adding slicks for a 60 second ish hill climb (about a mile long) is reconded to give about 2 seconds improvement, so for £800 a set that is a lot of bhp 'equivelent'.
I would need a 420x400 2.5 for that and the cost is...about 3K when done (plus the box) bearing in mind the 'donar' engine i have already.

Whether the car has 407 (sorry Floyd) or 380 is not the real issue, just making the hill climb time shorter is and more power is not always the answer, but more torque is...back to that 2.5 again.

Really not sure this is all worth it!

Not to worry on the box issue, the car we went to view today wasn't worth buying..
So we didn't.

I've never had to buy a second hand box.. (well not a five speed anyway)
All I do is fit em. I let Rich deal with the folding stuff.
