Scoobs going - 3yrs and loads of smiles
After 3 years ownership of the best car I have had in 20 years is just about to come to an end.
Trade-in on Friday, but thought I would post my thoughts on 3 years of Scoob ownership.
Scary thing I did was work out how much the last 3 years has cost me:
MY99 Turbo 5dr, 15000 miles per annum @ 23mpg
services, insurance, tyres and bits
oh and depreciation (trade-in - bunch of thiefs
)
it all added up to £21000
But then when I think about it have to say it has been worth the extra £3000 a year over a normal car for the smiles.
My observations of the last 3 years
Favourite tyres - Toyo T1-R's. Just suit me better than the Goodyear F1's. The F1's I thought gripped better but I never knew where the end of the grip was and the pain started, where as the Toyos were more progressive you could feel grip drifting.
Brakes - Pagid pads and disks favourite. Tried Ferodo pads but blimey how much brake dust on the wheels - both stopped the same.
Fuel - 23mpg mainly rush hour, mixed town and dual carriageway. Managed 2 years on Optimax until it got well above 80p a litre, so dropped to unleaded - didnt notice much except in the pocket.
Scoobynet - font of all knowledge, some classic posts, saved me some cash on insurance and how to change brake pads along the way, but as you can see I'm not a big talker more a listener.
Why sell - cash, still love driving the car. Mind too many cars can give you a good run for your money these days (bloody Fabia vRS's or whatever
)
Would I have another one - hmmm see how much I get used to the cash in my pocket.
So it's one last blast on Thursday night
then over to oil burning economy on Friday, see what lifes like on the other side.

.But it came down to wanting to try a diesel and a choice between a Golf Tdi 150 or the Leon FR 150 tdi. Went for the golf as couldnt quite stretch to the brand new Leon. Think I liked the Leon better but its all about cash. People talk about the torque from these diesels and once you get them going they do feel very quick, so we'll see.
