Default How serious?

Went to see a P reg STI TYPE r but was told the header tank had gone and there was water clearly visible. Was told by the dealer that the lid should be plastic not stainless steel.
Is this an easy fix?

all of the later cars have a steel header tank (and this includes ALL type-R's)
only the early cars <96 have the plastic tank...............never had any issues with the steel tanks, but replaced loads of plastic ones!!!

had probs with header tank on my 94wrx (plastic) would take a closer look at the radiator. one can normally cause fault with the other and if owner has been running car at high temps with either causing prob on long basis could be looking at further engine probs later on!
hope this helps
