Anyone know what the score is about importing 2nd hand scoobs from Europe?

Do they depreciate (over there) proportionatly to the cost of a new scoob - similar to the UK? (If you can save £6000 new - a quarter - can you save £3000 on a £12000 car?)

Do you have to pay import duty, VAT etc? If you own (as an Irish national) a car in the UK for more than 6 months, then there is no tax etc if you wish to import it back to Eire. Is this the same?

Any advice helpful.

Thanks

In Holland the list price to the consumer is the same as in the UK. The only way it works is cos you do not pay the BPM, 30% luxury car tax, applicable in NL. This is since the car is to be exported from new, hence the white Z-plates.

You can import a 2nd hand car from Europe and will not pay any VAT or duty since this has already been paid in the other country. There is a clear definition of what 2nd hand is something like over 6 months old or over so many thousand miles.
