Default Burst oil filter

My '94 WRX RA burst an oil filter, no.4 piston had burnt out, had that replaced. It's still burning serious amounts of oil all the time and trying to burst the new filter. Has anyone else had a similar problem or got any ideas as to what might be wrong. Compression on all four pots is supposedly good and the oil pump was changed.

If it's not the engine after what it has been through.

What about the oil pump. Is it new?

Sounds like you have some serious pressure build up some where.

Obviously in the crank area, have all the breathers been checked!

The oil pump was one Scoobysport (the week they went bust) had lying around, same results before and after the change.

I will check the breathing but have been told that is unlikely and more probable to be blowing past the unchanged pistons. It's done about 53k.

It sounds like the oil pump pressure release valve is jammed shut.

It's behind the cam belt covers, but it will need to be checked.

Scoobysport originally changed the pump in case it was the relief valve causing the problem. I assumed that they were a combined unit, if this is not the case I'll add it to the list.

It is part of the oil pump, but I can't think of anything else that would cause your problem.

If it is jammed, don't try and bodge it, fit a new pump.

The only time I've ever seen an oil filter blow it was down to the pressure relief valve in the pump being modified....badly...sounds like a sticking/stuck valve,or a modified pump thats causing high pressure....the only other thing I can think of is a major blockage after the filter...
